Merilyn’s experience is in health psychology,  providing counselling services to assist people from all walks of life, deal with a diverse range of life stressors and psychological distress. Her work is collaborative, adjusted to suit individual needs, and is solution focused.

Solution Oriented Therapy is an approach which emphasizes finding solutions rather than developing explanations for problems.  You can gain a good outcome even if the cause of the problem is not known.  This approach focuses on strengths rather than weakness to assist you to change in a positive and productive way and help you to achieve your goals.  The focus is on gaining insight, problem solving, building on existing coping strategies and developing new ones to help you produce and maintain optimism, dignity and control over your life.

Merilyn has considerable experience working with injured WorkCover and Motor Vehicle Accident claimants, as well as Chronic Pain patients and those suffering Post Traumatic Stress Disorder .  She is familiar  with the WorkCover process of injury management and is competent in report writing for insurance purposes.

She can assist clients’ in learning skills and strategies  to improve the management of their chronic pain condition, and develop techniques to help nurture their body and counteract stress symptoms, to achieve a better qualify of life.

Merilyn can assist individuals who have difficulty managing their weight, or disordered eating patterns, to improve self awareness of attitudes to eating, weight and body image.

There are many different approaches Psychologists can take - both long and short term therapies are appropriate for different conditions and individuals. As an Associate Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) Merilyn is bound by a Professional Code of Ethics.

Merilyn is committed to ongoing training and professional development. She is a regular attendee at conferences and workshops.


Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Use of evidenced based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) found to be effective in the management of a wide range of psychological problems to assist individuals understand and explore the relationship between their thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour in order to better understand their condition (Eg depression, Panic Attacks) and learn to manage their symptoms more effectively to allow them to lead more satisfying lives now and in the future.

Clinical Hypnosis may be used as an adjunct to this approach.


Number of sessions varies but 5 - 12 is average. The length of treatment depends on a number of variables which are discussed and agreed upon during sessions.
